Centre for Sports Medicine - St-Anne St-Remi Clinic

Sports Medicine Circuit

A new sports medicine circuit was set up at the St-Anne St-Remi Clinic in February 2018.

Why?

- To improve the quality and speed of care of patients in sports medicine.

- To offer treatment tailored to athletes, specific, global and effective treatment, within a time frame depending on the patient's physiology.

Who?

A multidisciplinary team working in tandem:

  • emergency doctors
  • radiologists
  • physiotherapists
  • orthopaedic surgeons
  • sports doctors
  • ...

How?

An injured athlete goes to the A&E. There, they are examined by a doctor and undergo one or more medical examinations (x-ray, etc.).

They are given an appointment with the sports doctor for the same day, or the following Monday if they show up during the weekend.

The sport doctors accepts the referral, confirms the diagnosis and starts a treatment in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

In practice

When a member of your team is injured during a game, they have to be sent to the emergency department and are told to mention that they want to be part of the sports medicine circuit.

This is important, so that they:

  • Are treated by a team of specialists.
  • Avoid unnecessary immobilisation (and therefore the risk of muscle wasting, ...).
  • Prevent their condition from getting worse.
  • Are committed to following their treatment.

Consultation for sports medicine

In the event of pain, suspected cardiopulmonary pathology or chronic pathology, you can contact the sports doctor who will refer the athlete to the appropriate specialist.

Various examinations could be performed such as ECG, stress tests, etc.
