Service Patient Relations
There are 3 main “patient relations and mediation” services spread over the 3 hospital sites of CHIREC.
Each of our sites has a reference person whose job is to help patients with grievances or who wants to get more information.
Our activity is divided into two distinct centres of interest :
Mediation service for patients’ rights
Each hospital must make available to patients a mediation service in accordance with the Act of 22.08.02 and its Implementation Decrees concerning the rights of patients.
As mediators we must be able to take on board complaints relating to the rights set out in the aforementioned legal provisions:
- quality of care,
- informed consent,
- consultation and copy of the medical file,
- financial impact,
- etc.
Our main purpose, as desired by the legislators, is to attempt to re-establish dialogue between patients and caregivers.
Our work is carried out in confidentiality, independence and neutrality.
Patient-relations service
We also must listen carefully to the patients when they have complaints that do not come under the law regarding the rights of patients.
Our role consists of listening to the patients, directing them and advising them during any disputes with the hospital and its service providers.
We can also, according to our abilities and limitations, try to find a solution to the patients’ problems.
We also have to inform the patients about all aspects (legal, practical etc.) concerning the running of the hospital.

Intercultural mediation
If you find yourself having some linguistic or cultural difficulties, the intercultural mediator is there to help improve communications between you and the medical teams treating you.
