One of the main features of the maternity ward at Braine-l'Alleud Waterloo is its philosophy of gentle birth. This approach emphasizes the importance of providing the newborn with conditions that allow it to fully express its intellectual, sensory, and emotional capabilities. The newborn will be welcomed in a dimly lit environment, free from disruptive noises, placed on the mother's chest for skin-to-skin contact.
The medical staff will be discreet, respectful of these first intimate moments that form a new family.
When breastfeeding is desired, the baby will be placed at the breast within the first few minutes after birth.
The care team will be available and attentive to your needs, as well as those of the future father.
Everything is in place to ensure your comfort and safety.
Respect for physiology is a core principle in the approach to childbirth at the Braine-l'Alleud Waterloo maternity ward. This philosophy emphasizes the natural process of birth, aiming to support the mother’s and baby’s body in its own rhythm without unnecessary interventions. The medical team respects the body's natural progression during labor, allowing for a more personalized and empowering birth experience.
The approach encourages spontaneous labor and delivery, minimizing the use of interventions unless medically necessary. This respect for physiology also extends to the postpartum period, with a focus on promoting natural bonding and breastfeeding.
In this environment, the goal is to support the physiological processes of childbirth, ensuring that both mother and baby are given the time and space they need to experience the birth in the most natural and comfortable way possible.
The Maternity of Braine-l'Alleud - Waterloo is pleased, in the interest of transparency and effective communication with its patients, to share some statistical data on the activities that characterize the functioning of our maternity ward.
These figures come from a national registry (CEPIP).
For each data point, the regional score (Wallonia) is provided in parentheses for comparison.
For the year 2016 :
- The cesarean rate is 20% (regional average: 25%)
- The episiotomy rate is 14% (regional average: 50%)
- The epidural rate is 69% (regional average: 80%)
- The induced labor rate is 19% (regional average: 35%)
These rates indicate a low level of medical intervention and are in line with our medical approach, which aims to respect the natural course of birth as much as possible.
