The 10 Recommendations for a Successful Breastfeeding

In our facility, we do everything we can to support each parent with care and respect. We inform you, guide you, and support you at every step: from skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth to exclusive, on-demand breastfeeding, with attentive care day and night. No pressure, no judgment, just a genuine desire to help you experience a calm and fulfilling breastfeeding journey, at your own pace, with the resources and support you need.

The 10 WHO/UNICEF Recommendations for a Successful Breastfeeding

  1. Adopt a written breastfeeding policy and ensure it is systematically communicated to all healthcare staff.
  2. Provide all healthcare staff with the training and skills necessary to implement this policy.
  3. Inform all pregnant women about the benefits of breastfeeding and how to practice it, whether or not they are followed in the facility.
  4. Place newborns skin-to-skin with their mother immediately after birth for at least one hour, and encourage mothers to recognize when their baby is ready to feed, offering help if needed.
  5. Show mothers how to breastfeed and maintain lactation even if they are separated from their baby.
  6. Promote exclusive breastfeeding, giving breastfed newborns no food or drink other than breast milk, unless medically indicated.
  7. Keep the newborn with the mother 24/7.
  8. Encourage breastfeeding on demand.
  9. Do not give breastfed babies artificial nipples or pacifiers.
  10. Identify breastfeeding support groups and other appropriate resources, and refer mothers to them upon leaving the facility.
