Childbirth preparation classes

The aim of these meetings is to:

  • Get to know our maternity unit.
  • Gain a better understanding of our approach to providing medical and psychological support throughout pregnancy, childbirth and your stay in the maternity unit.
  • Provide you with information about the various techniques available.

The breastfeeding session is led by a midwife.

During this session, various topics will be covered, such as the benefits of breast milk, the physiology of breastfeeding, factors that help establish breastfeeding, feeding patterns, possible difficulties and ways to prevent or overcome them, and so on.

The session begins at 6.30 pm on the first floor of Building F (Madeleine Bres Room). Parking is available on Rue de la Goëtte (the former municipal car park).

The ‘Body & Birth’ sessions, offered by the Braine-l’Alleud maternity unit, are led by a physiotherapist from the Kiné Bien-Être team.

You’ll be able to discuss the different types of antenatal classes, which one to choose, what the team offers, how the childcare service is organised, and so on.

The sessions start at 6.30 pm at 54 Rue Wayez (opposite the hospital).

  • Understand your baby’s rhythms, recognise the signs of tiredness, and interpret their cries, whilst respecting their needs and development.
  • Learn the basics of your baby’s sleep hygiene and healthy habits to help them wind down and fall asleep safely.

About to become parents? Are you in the final stages of your pregnancy and have some questions?

A professional from the ONE can now meet with you to:

  • discuss your future baby’s needs and their place within the family
  • provide information on your stay in the maternity ward and your return home after giving birth
  • go through the administrative procedures
  • show you your child’s health record
  • promote the services offered by the ONE and provide information on consultations and activities near you.

During this consultation with a midwife, you will be able to ask as many questions as you like.

Here are some of the topics covered:
  • The midwife’s role before, during and after your delivery
  • The different types of antenatal classes, and your breastfeeding options
  • How the maternity ward works (when to arrive, length of stay, visiting hours, etc.)

You will also receive information about the information sessions, as well as various useful documents for your stay in the maternity ward.

Who is it for?

Any expectant mother who is around 7 months pregnant.

Frequency

At least once during pregnancy.

Prenatal consultation with a midwife

During a consultation with a physiotherapist specialising in obstetrics, you will be offered a range of approaches:
  • Prenatal physiotherapy (from the 6th month onwards)
  • Haptonomy (from the 4th month onwards)
  • Prenatal sophrology (from the start of pregnancy)
  • Prenatal yoga
  • Prenatal exercise
  • Back treatment
  • Relaxing massage
You can also discuss the following topics:
  • Pain management during labour
  • Different breathing techniques
  • Movements and positions during labour and pushing
  • Relaxation
  • Back, leg or tummy massages

Visiting hours - For partners and siblings

  • In a private room: the partner is welcome day and night.
  • In a shared room: the partner is welcome from 8 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
  • Siblings: from 3pm to 7.30pm for all room categories.

Visiting hours - For family and friends

  • From 5pm to 6pm.
  • 2 people at a time.
  • Maximum 4 different people.
