Interventional radiology

Interventional radiology enables the radiologist to perform minimally invasive ‘surgical’ procedures.

Using imaging equipment under their control, radiologists navigate the body to administer treatment without making large incisions.

List of interventional procedures

Interventional Oncology (Cancer Treatment)

Destruction of tumours using various techniques (radiofrequency, microwaves, cryoablation, irreversible electroporation).

Administration of chemotherapy directly into liver tumours, followed by embolisation of the blood vessels supplying them.

Injections of local anaesthetics or corticosteroids to relieve chronic pain.
